Victoria Offices Shortlisted for Prestigious Award


Victoria Advent House and Victoria Beacon Place are among the contenders for the prestigious Commercial Project of the Year with a Value Over £5million Award. 

The Michelmores Western Morning News Property Awards is the region’s premier property competition, showcasing the very best in Westcountry property projects.  So we are delighted that our two new office buildings have made it through to this years shortlist.

Before construction started

Our original building  Victoria Commercial Centre has been used by hundreds of businesses and start-ups over the years,  so with our flexible office concept working so well it became obvious that Cornwall desperately needed premises for new developing businesses.  After being awarded £3.1m by the ERDF Convergence Funding in 2012 construction of Advent House and Beacon Place began in January 2013 on an adjacent piece of overgrown land.

The project objective was to provide a range of cost-effective office units in two buildings to BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard.  BREEAM is the world’s leading design and assessment method for sustainable buildings.

Energy features built in to the buildings include passive characteristics such as extensive insulation achieving exceptionally low energy use, natural ventilation, natural daylighting and solar shading. Functional elements include occupation-controlled and daylight-reactive lighting, Biomass plant (Wood pellet boiler) and PV array, along with extensive energy metering and monitoring.

Many South-West subcontractors were selected to complete the construction, proving they could be competitive in winning work against national competition by offering value and quality. This has meant that much of the ERDF Convergence Funding stayed in the South-West directly through the subcontractors employed, their staff and indirectly through their own local supply chain.

With both buildings completed by the end of 2014  our first tenants moved in shortly after.  Since being open more and more companies have decided to base their business here at Victoria.  With easy access to the A30 and plenty of onsite parking our conference and meeting facilities have also been host to a variety of events over the last few months.

By adding to our existing facilities our aim is to make Victoria Offices the center for business in Cornwall. We hope to do this by attracting young, energetic businesses and are able to watch them expand and create jobs in the local community and in so doing elevate the status of the Centre, Victoria and Cornwall.
